Non Profit Supporter - Producer - Actress

Tell us about yourself! What do you do? And what are you passionate about?

I act and produce film projects, as well as work for non-profits. Some of my favorites are L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool programs, One Billion Rising, and Peace Over Violence! I love being part of work that allows me to contribute to something greater - and especially work that creates a safer and more welcoming space for others. I am super passionate about artistic expression, human connection, and spreading positivity.

Describe a specific moment when you positively impacted the world (someone's life, the environment, animals, etc.) and how it made you feel.

I used to work at a summer camp Muslim-American youth ages 6-13. There was one student that no one could really get through to and who never really wanted to participate. He always left camp saying how much he hated it. His father would often come late to pick him up. So on the last day of camp he was looking particularly sad because everyone's parents had come to the final ceremony and gone home, but his father had not been able to attend and he was still waiting. I spent the next hour with all my attention on him, trying to find out what he liked. At first, he was reluctant to even talk to me but eventually he started opening up. I found out that he loved comics so we drew a few strips about a made-up character. This student had such a huge imagination and for the first time he left smiling. I returned to the camp 6 years later as a core member and saw he was still attending the camp as a 13 year old. Sure enough, he still remembered me. :)

What future plans do you have to continue making a positive impact in the world?

I would love to continue developing my own skills in non-profit management. I want to get really good at leading people to make an impact. People and artists collaborating is such an amazing thing and I want to see more of that. I would love to start working with local woman who have faced personal struggles growing and and help provide resources to them. Working with young girls on a personal level as a teacher or mentor would also be a dream.

Recap a time someone has done a random act of kindness for you?

I was in a library during finals week during college. I kept falling asleep while studying, trying to make a deadline for paper (that's why I shouldn't procrastinate). It was about 2am when I kept falling asleep on my books. After waking back up and telling myself to get it together I found a note on my desk written on binder paper, it was anonymously addressed to "the sleepy girl in Powell Library" and encouraged me to keep going and to just push through for the next couple hours. I still have that note from the stranger. :)

Who is your most inspiring #WorldChanger and why?

Michelle Obama - fierce, intellectual, and all about living a healthy lifestyle physically, mentally, and emotionally.

What advice do you have for someone who aspires to be a #WorldChanger?

The people around you and your friends are your most valuable resource. There is this quote that always motivates me personally, ""Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead. Find people you love working with, find what you care about, and change the world with them. :)

Where can we follow what you're doing?
